ABOUT ME

I've always been passionate about drawing and animation.  After receiving a fine arts degree in 1991, I promptly found myself in the service industry.  However, I never lost that passion.  Just to entertain myself I would draw one frame editorial cartoons, sprawling landscapes, immediate interior spaces, or whatever struck my imagination at the time.

. I would sometimes turn it into a game.  I'd give myself 2 minutes to draw the person sitting across the room, or draw the pattern in a Persian rug but only give myself a few seconds to look at it.  Fun games to help improve my drawing skills.  I disliked what I drew more often than I liked it, but the outcome was always positive, it helped me draw a better picture more quickly and with less reference.

When the pandemic hit I found myself (like millions of other people) unable to go to my job.  I wanted to use my time wisely so I used text books and the internet to teach myself 2d and 3d digital art and now I'm completely in love with it.  I may never go back to pens, pencils and paper.  With a slew of open source art programs and a drawing tablet, I can make even more beautiful art than ever before, and more quickly.

I am most familiar with Krita for 2d art.  I understand that it's interface is more similar to Photoshop than other open source drawing programs.  For 3d art I have learned Blender.  I believe it is most similar to Maya, which is one of the industries standards, and is also open source.  I've also heard that Blender has a steep learning curve and took that as a challenge.  If I can teach myself Blender, any other program  should be easy to learn by comparison.
